A rod shaped organelle with a folded inner membrane where most of aerobic respiration takes place. Cells with high energy demands, such as muscle cells, contain very large numbers of mitochondria.

Ordinary Level

The part of a cell where respiration takes place. It releases the energy that the cell needs.
