Terms of Use

Terms of use for the H1 Owl website and the Leaving Cert study app: how subscriptions and refunds work, and the rules for using it.

Effective date: August 27, 2026 (age rule added; previous version July 21, 2026)

In short: H1 Owl is an independent study aid. Use it fairly, don't copy our content, and remember that your exam result depends on your work, not on any app.

1. Who we are

H1 Owl is a study website and mobile app for the Leaving Certificate (Maths, Biology, Chemistry and Physics), operated by an independent developer (sole trader, Ireland). Contact: support@h1owl.ie.

2. What H1 Owl is (and is not)

  • H1 Owl is a study aid: original practice questions, lessons and mock exams written from the published NCCA syllabus.
  • It is not affiliated with the State Examinations Commission, the NCCA, the CAO or any school, and it is not an official exam resource.
  • Grade estimates in the app are indicative only. They are based on your practice performance and carry no guarantee about your real exam result.

3. Using the service

  • The website and email list are free to use. The app has a free tier and a paid Pro plan: an auto-renewing subscription (€44.99 per year or €6.99 per month) with a one-week free trial. Subscriptions are billed and managed through your Apple App Store account and renew automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period.
  • Purchases are processed by the App Store under Apple’s terms; refunds follow Apple’s standard policy.
  • Age. You must be at least 16 to create an account or buy a subscription yourself. If you are under 16, a parent or guardian must set up the account, accept these terms and make any purchase on your behalf. (In Ireland, 16 is the age at which you can consent to online services yourself: Data Protection Act 2018, section 31.)
  • You agree not to copy, resell, scrape or redistribute our content, and not to disrupt or attempt to break the service.

4. Content and ownership

All questions, lessons, glossary entries and other content are original works created for H1 Owl and are protected by copyright. Syllabus names and exam terminology belong to their respective owners and are used only to describe what the app covers.

5. Liability

H1 Owl is provided "as is". To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect losses, and nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited under Irish law. Our total liability is capped at the amount you paid for the service.

6. Changes and termination

We may update these terms; changes will be published on this page with a new date. We may suspend accounts that abuse the service.

7. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of Ireland, and Irish courts have jurisdiction.
