Higher Level
A setup in an experiment that is identical to the others except that the independent variable is not applied. It provides a baseline for comparison so any change can be linked to the variable being tested.
Ordinary Level
A part of an experiment set up in the same way but without the thing being tested. It is used to compare the results against.
